RFID

Operation

• Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the wireless use of electromagnetic fields to transfer data, for the purposeof automatically identifying and tracking tags attached to objects. The tags contain electronically stored information.
• The chip (tag) can be attached to any object (clothes, furniture, vehicles, weapons, containers, parcels…).
• The tag and the information it contains can be read when passing through a reader.
  
• An RFID reader is a network-connected device (fixed or mobile) with an antenna that sends power as well as data and commands to the tags. The reader acts like an access point for RFID tagged items so that the tags’ data can be made available to business applications.

Military Application

Tags are especially valuable in military applications, as they can be read through a variety of environmental conditions such as rain, snow, fog, ice, paint, dirt/ grime, and other visually and environmentally challenging conditions where barcodes or other optically read technologies would be useless. RFID tags can also be read at very high speeds, often responding in less than 100 milliseconds thus not hampering the operations where speed is of essence. Tags can either be read-only, read-write or a combination thereof. The read-write capability of an active RFID system is also a significant advantage in interactive applications such as recording the historical activities of any given item or personnel. Tags that are ‘writeable’ can contain intelligence to record environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity of transport, shock and vibration, and even record if items have come into contact with pollutants, say in a NBC environment,or if packing cases have been opened. RFID provides data of any given item, rendering a safer and more accurate supply chain, thus assuring greater mission reliability as real time information is provided to the decision makers.

RFID applied in the ASPIS System

ASPIS System, developed by our partner Tauri Solutions,  manages the paradigm of  controlling and managing strategic assets, specifically designed with a proven management interface ASPIS Control, RFID tags (Radio Frequency Identification) and a barcode.

This solution can be configured based on business processes, organisation and terminology of each client. Therefore the solution was developed to fit the business practices of each organisation.
